What IF I Wanted the Top 10 Holiday Destinations for Value

We finally booked our holiday last minute so I thought I would share some great affordable destinations, where you can travel on a budget but still have an amazing time.  The cost per day includes: coffee, beer, soft drink, wine, water, sun cream, cigarettes (although you could give them up and spend it on something nice) and a 3 course meal for 2 adults.  The costs are provided by 2013 Post Office World Wide Holiday Costs Barometer.  I was surprised to see that many of them I had visited, so I have shared my thoughts.  Although, there are some on my list still to visit like Vietnam.

We are often so focused on the cost of the travel and hotel, it's important to consider what we spend when we are there - The Total Cost.

1. Spain £36.14 a day

Spain is filled with so many great places.  Spain offer cities like Madrid and Barcelona for its tapas, architecture (Guadi) and the best of both worlds; the city and the beach.  It has Ibiza for the clubbing experience that just keeps drawing you back – I am on 9 visits so far!.  Or get always in Andalucía or Nerva.   I love Nerva for both girls’ holidays, and a family get away.  The old town is great; everything is convenient to get to and I have had some of the best fish ever on restaurants off the beach.

2. Sri Lanka £36.14 a day

I haven’t visited yet, but now it is on my list for a long haul flight.

Sri Lanka

3. Czech Republic £39.17

I couldn’t believe the price of Prague when I went it was so cheap, and that was over 10 years ago. It’s still a bargain so if you haven’t been; then it’s a must.  The palaces, architectural etching on buildings, walks, food and atmosphere made it one of my favourite city trips.

4. Bali £40.47

Bali may not be cheap to travel to depending on where you are coming from, but when you are there it can be value for money.  It certainly has sun, relaxation and if you have time visit some of these restaurants and bars: Made, Breeze, Barocco Pasticceria d’Arte, Word of Mouth, Déjà vu have some fun.  You could relax at Spa at the Legian or Theta Spa by the Sea.

5. Vietnam £43.20

We are heading to Vietnam next year.  It has been on my list for a long time.  I want to go to Fansipan Mountain, Halong bay, My Khe and Nha Trang.

6. Bulgaria £45.10

Great for hiking, mountain biking, kayaking and beaches.

7. Portugal £45.54

Whether you want to go to the beach e.g. Algarve or you are interested in the history and culture it has a wealth of activities.  For example,  the estate of Initiation Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra in Portugal, music and parties in Lisbon or water sports.

8. Mexico £48.93

There is more to Mexico then beaches it has a great underground lake near Macan Ché on the Yucatán Peninsula.   If you wanted to treat yourself to some great restaurants and bars include: Sud 777, Au Pied de Cochon and Pre by Love.

9. Hungary £51.45

There are the thermal baths at Miskolc Tapolca.  Budapest is packed with cultural buildings, and there is a great museum ‘Hadtorteneti’ depicting the affects of the war on the country.  It was a bit harder in central Budapest to find the mixed bath areas with your partner, so maybe ask before you enter.

Parliament Building, Budapest, Hungary

10. Turkey £52.89

There are of course the typical holiday resorts, but Turkey has many hidden treasures.  The obvious is Istanbul.  Turkey is one of the best cities I have visited, so much so that I have had to do it 3 times.  The summer and winter clubs made the romantic weekend each time.

A not so known destination is the The cappadocia region of turkey where you will find hotels carved in rocks, with rooms starting from 20 Euro’s.

Top 5 Family Holidays I've found

Top 5 Family Holidays I've found

On my quest to find our summer holiday this year, I thought I would share my top 5 finds.

Club Med

This is heaven but at a price.

Centre Parcs

I thought that they were just in the UK, but they are across EUROPE.  The wide array of activates are second to none: farms, paint balling, cycling, sailing, face painting, discos and all in a luxury setting.

This place has come highly recommended from a work colleague.  The child facilities, great accommodation and food all included give families a great break.

Espirit Sun

Here you will find solutions that cover both ends of the budget luxury and economy.

Baby Friendly Boltholes

I was so excited by the search functionality like “private chef,” they can take on my role for two weeks!  However, this site looks promising but what it returned is often just a lot of villas.  It is worth mentioning for those that want to find villas.
